Chaplain David Bates was born and raised in Richmond, VA. He graduated from the College of William and Mary with a B.A. in History and a commission in the U.S. Army through the ROTC program. David began his military service as an armor officer and served in Germany and the United States in a variety of junior officer leadership positions. Upon his release from active duty in 1980, he entered the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He received a Master of Divinity degree in 1983, was ordained by the Southern Baptist Convention and served as the pastor of Aaron's Creek Baptist Church, South Boston, VA. In 1986, he returned to active duty as a chaplain and received a Master of Theology degree in Christian Ethics in 1991. He retired from the Army in 2008 at the rank of colonel after serving in the United States, Korea and Germany in a variety of chaplain positions at the unit, command and installation levels. He worked for Military Ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ before joining the staff of Faith Bible College in 2012. David has worked in church, military and para-church positions of ministry and is now serving students who are pursuing a biblical higher education.
